Berks County Summer Fun

If you're like me, you are excited it's summer and ready to explore with your kiddos! So, I reached out to my favorite mommies and have compiled all our ideas into one place. They had some good ones! There was ones I've heard about and new ones that I can't wait to explore.

VBS

My church, Calvary Bible Fellowship Church in Sinking Spring is having their Vacation Bible School on June 27, 28, 29 and 30th from 6-8pm. The theme is "Meet the Master Builder". Your children will learn bible lessons as they participate in small group activities, play games, sing songs and build legos! They will have a blast. You can sign up at http://www.cbfc.net/vbs/

If you can't make this one, a lot of other churches have a Vacation Bible School as well!

READING MUSEUM {READING, PA}

How fun is creek walking?! They have different exhibits they change around during the year. Right now there are two huge moving dinosaurs outside! We've also visited Clifford and Curious George in the kids wing of the museum!

We recently explored this place with our friends. The boys loved playing on the big "ark". I 'm not sure if it's an ark or a pirate ship, but we have the same one at our church as we call it Noah's ark so that's what they think it is! Anyway...we packed lunch and had a picnic there, bought goat food for $1.50 and fed all the animals. Then we went inside their cute little diner and enjoyed ICE CREAM! Yum!!

Speaking of ice cream, we have the cutest little ice cream truck that travels around our neighborhood so when we hear the music, we have to run out and track it down! Our last adventure, we ran around the neighborhood barefoot until we finally found it! Downside of living on a dead end street I guess!

I wish I had taken photos at this place but when bringing two children and all their "stuff", sometimes it gets left behind. We went here during the day so we had the whole place to ourselves. Ethan loved that they had a train table and the owner also put on a movie for us. The kids loved watching ANTS and the moms loved eating in peace! Their ice cream is awesome!!!!! Yum :)

FREE MOVIES!

We never say no to free movies. We love the movies. IMAX in Reading and FOX THEATRES are playing free movies at 10am Tuesday- Thursday throughout the summer.

GARDENING

It might be a little later in the season to plant a garden but for us, it's about taking care of our plants! Buy a cheap watering can and let your kids help! I DO NOT have a green thumb so any help is better than me doing by myself. I swear the plants see me and kill themselves ;)

Along those lines...take out a bucket of water and a paintbrush and let your kids paint the sidewalk! So fun and they can watch is disappear as the sun heats up!

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY!

You can break out the cute rain boots and go pick up these ducky (frog or ladybug) coats and umbrellas at AC Moore and let your kids splash! They'll be soaked but they will have so much FUN!!!! We even got out our squeaky ducks and watched them swim.

CHOO CHOO BARN {STRAUSBURG}

This was a good rainy day place to go! There are so many neat and intricate parts to this display. We also visited the cute gift shop which was a bonus for my Thomas loving younger son!

GRINGS MILL {WYOMISSING}

More creek walking...of course! And there were lots of people there fishing. There is a playground there as well as pavilions and a nice open field for a picnic!

ZOOS

Elmwood Zoo! It's a smaller zoo but there is a play area for kids and you can feed the giraffes!

I've heard great things about the Lehigh Valley Zoo and even though I lived in the Lehigh Valley a lot of my life, I have never seen there! It is on our to do list though!

While you are in the Lehigh Valley, please visit the Fish Hatchery!!

LONGS PARK

We visited here in the fall! The kids loved playing on the playground and watching the ducks in the huge pond! Good place for a picnic!

FREE BOWLING

You can sign up at www.kidsbowlfree.com to get free bowling for your kiddos until August! You just pay shoe rentals. I added my husband and I for an additional $27 for the entire summer!

We go to Berks Lanes and not only do the kids LOVE it, the pizza is fantastic!
