Krysti's Story

October 9, 2016

"In June 2011 after a long hard labor I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. My husband and I always talked about having 3 children, so when we found out just before Thanksgiving that we were expecting we were thrilled.

At our first appointment we found out the baby wasn't developing and I would miscarry. The ultrasound images are forever burned into my memory, but knowing it was best for my baby gave me comfort. On Christmas Day, I completed the miscarriage. But I had to keep smiling, it was my son's first Christmas!

Mid-March of the following year I found out I was pregnant again. We were so relieved to see a tiny heartbeat on the ultrasound screen. We were scheduled for a follow-up ultrasound and assumed it was standard procedure following a miscarriage. Unfortunately, the doctors had noticed an abnormality in the first ultrasound and our baby's heartbeat had stopped beating by our next appointment. They assured us these things happen sometimes and because we had a healthy baby at home there was no reason to believe we couldn't have another healthy baby. Later that year we became pregnant and I was convinced this was our time. Sadly, a few weeks later we found out it was not to be. Our doctor gave us the confidence to try again.

In October 2014 we welcomed our beautiful rainbow baby girl. Still wanting to have 3 children and knowing the risk and the heartbreak we could face we became pregnant and had another healthy baby girl in March of this year.

1 in 100 women experience recurrent (3 or more) miscarriages. My mom experienced 3 miscarriages and I'm fortunate she was able to empathize and be there for me.

I hope my story can inspire others to not give up, follow their heart and listen to their body. Communicating with your support system and your doctors is essential to remain optimistic and not become discouraged."

about

My photography is so much more than taking a photograph; it’s about creating memories. I tend to fall in love with my clients and build friendships that last through the years. When I picked up my first camera all those years ago, I never imagined it turning into a career that I love so much.
