Lauren's Story

Berks County Pregnancy and Infant Loss

"Oliver was supposed to be our miracle baby. My husband, Aaron and I have been trying to start our family for more than 4 years. We have suffered through loss, after loss, after loss, after loss. Four total miscarriages. It seemed as though my babies would never make it past 8 weeks. Oliver though was different… even when I had bad signs, complications, early bleeding, somehow he still kept defying all of the odds. Aaron and I opted to have the universal screenings done, not because ANY of our miscarriages had chromosomal issues, but simply to see our miracle baby more often. One of our last tests came back elevated, another complication that sent us to get a level 2 ultrasound at 16 weeks.

However, just like always, everything seemed to be ok and we found out we were going to have a little baby boy. Then on the morning of February 26th when I woke up to get ready for work I discovered I was wet. I was in total denial that anything was wrong and decided that I would proceed with my normal morning routines and call the doctor once the office opened. That phone call was the start of my nightmare. I was told to go to the hospital immediately, where I found out that my water had partially broke at just shy of 18 weeks. The next 24 hours were the most terrifying of my life, or so I thought. I didn’t go into labor, had no signs of infection, and had enough water left to keep my sweet baby boy alive. I was told to buckle in, stay positive and work on keeping my miracle in as I was put on strict bed rest.

I survived for 13 days in the hospital like this before it was discovered that my miracle, my Oliver, no longer had a heartbeat. He was born the next day on March 10, 2016 at 1:36 PM. Oliver may not physically be with me anymore but I will carry him with me for the rest of my life. He will always be my miracle baby."
